Yerwada, 21st September 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is considering the construction of a grade separator or a flyover to alleviate traffic congestion at the Sangamwadi junction, also known as Sadalbaba Dargah Chowk, located in Yerawada. This busy intersection is a convergence point for four significant roads: Sangamwadi, the airport, Yerawada, and Deccan College.

With an increase in vehicular traffic over the past few months, many drivers are now opting for Sangamwadi Chowk as an alternative route, bypassing Bundgarden and Mangaldas Roads due to ongoing diversions for work at Sadhu Vaswani Chowk.

Local leaders have been vocal about the pressing need for improvements. Sanjay Bhosale, a former corporator representing Yerawada, stated, “We have repeatedly brought up the issue of traffic jams in PMC meetings. The surge in vehicles has made daily commutes a nightmare for residents.” He emphasized that timely action is crucial to mitigate these challenges.

Additionally, the junction serves as a major stop for MSRTC and private luxury buses traveling from Pune to Marathwada and Vidarbha, adding to the traffic burden.

In response to these concerns, PMC officials are actively inspecting the junction to devise solutions. “Our primary goal is to enhance traffic flow at this busy chowk. We are exploring options for a grade separator or flyover, as well as the potential widening of existing roads, particularly for left turns, to create more space for vehicles,” an official confirmed.
