Pune, 28th April 2023: Water will be provided from the Bhama-Askhed scheme of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to Wagholi and the rest of Lohegaon. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar informed that the cost of this water supply scheme will be around Rs 281 crores and the plan has been prepared.

At present, 15 MLD of water per day is provided to Wagholi from the Rural Water Supply Scheme. As 59 MLD of water will be provided to these two villages per day through the scheme of the Municipal Corporation, the water problem of these two villages will be solved.

Wagholi Gram Panchayat was included in the Municipal Corporation in June 2021. Earlier, Wagholi was being supplied with water from the Rural Water Supply Scheme. However, in the last few years, the demand for water has increased due to large-scale urbanization in Wagholi.

In addition, after the inclusion of the village in the municipality, there was a demand to include Wagholi in the Equal Water Supply Scheme. Since the work of the same water scheme is going on in the city, the Municipal Corporation has also taken up the task of preparing a plan to provide water through this scheme for the newly included old 11 and new 23 villages. Among them, Wagholi was preferred along with Sus-Mhalunge.

Accordingly, a separate plan has been prepared for Wagholi, in which, a plan of around Rs 281 crores has been prepared for water tanks, new water channels, water purification, and other works. A few days ago, the Municipal Corporation approved the plan for Sus-Mhalunge village. For that, the said decision was taken considering the population of 2041.

The government has sanctioned 200 MLD water per day from the Bhama-Askhed scheme to provide water to the eastern part of the city. However, in reality, the municipality is taking only 120 MLD of water in this scheme. Therefore, 80 MLD of water per day is left out of the quota approved by the Municipal Corporation. From this water, 60 MLD water will be given to Wagholi and Lohegaon.

Even after that, since 20 MLD of water will be left with the Municipal Corporation, the municipality is planning whether this water can be used for other villages as well.
