Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Policeman Caught Taking Bribe of Rs 5000

Bavdhan, 27th June 2024: A Police Naik from Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a contractor for not penalizing his vehicles transporting debris.

After receiving the complaint, officials from the Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid a trap and caught Police Naik Samadhan Lokhande, who is posted with the Bavdhan traffic division, red-handed while accepting the bribe money.

According to the ACB, the complainant owns five goods carrier vehicles, and the accused policeman allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 per vehicle for not taking action against rule violations while transporting debris from construction sites. ACB officials verified the bribe demand and then arrested Lokhande.

An FIR has been registered against him at Hinjawadi police station for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. ACB Police Inspector Virnath Mane is further investigating the case.
