Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police to Take Legal Action Against 108 Ganesha Mandals for Noise Pollution Violations

Pimpri Chinchwad, 3rd October 2023: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have recorded noise levels exceeding permissible limits from 108 public Ganesha mandals during the recent Ganesh immersion processions. Legal action, including fines ranging from two to five lakhs, will be taken against the violators, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Swapna Gore.

The Central Pollution Board mandates that residential areas should maintain a sound level of 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night. Industrial areas have a limit of 75 decibels during the day and 70 decibels at night. However, these norms were blatantly violated by dhol-tasha troupes and loudspeakers during the processions. The police have taken records of the noise pollution levels from 108 mandals participating in the event.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the respective divisions will review the records and consult with government officials before filing cases in court. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Swapna Gore, violators could face fines ranging between two to five lakhs. Cases will be registered against the office bearers of the concerned mandals.

The police stations that recorded noise violations are as follows: Pimpri Police Station recorded 10, Chinchwad 4, Bhosari 37, MIDC Bhosari 4, Chakan 2, Talegaon Dabhade 9, Wakad 21, Hinjawadi 16, and Nigdi 5.
