Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Invoke MCOCA Against Gang of Five in Talegaon Dabhade

Talegaon Dabhade, 16th July 2024: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against five members of the same gang following a case registered at Talegaon Dabhade Police Station. This action marks another significant step by Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, who has now taken action against 135 accused involved in 22 gangs under MCOCA in 2024.

The accused, against whom MCOCA has been imposed, are identified as follows: Gang Leader Yogaraj, also known as Bittya Vishwanath Murhe (age 36, resident of Somatane), Prem Suresh Sonawane (age 21, resident of Pawana Nagar, Maval), Amit Machindra Shete (age 35, resident of Chakan), Lahu Ashok Bhalekar (age 32, resident of Somatane), and Suraj, also known as Bantya Dattu Gaikwad (age 21, resident of Hadapsar). This action was taken following the registration of a case against all of them under IPC Sections 398 (attempt to commit robbery or dacoity when armed with a deadly weapon), 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, to commit extortion), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (2) (punishment for criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication), as well as relevant sections of the Arms Act of 1959 and Maharashtra Police Act of 1951.

According to police reports, the accused against whom MCOCA has been imposed are notorious history-sheeters known for engaging in illegal activities for financial gain and spreading terror. This gang has been involved in numerous serious crimes including murder, attempted murder, dacoity, kidnapping for extortion, extortion, robbery, attempted dacoity, vandalism, illegal possession of firearms, and deadly weapons. They are facing 12 cases registered across Talegaon Dabhade, Pimpri, and Kamshet Police Stations.

The decision to impose MCOCA was authorized by Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi.

This action was carried out under the leadership of Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doifode, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Bapu Bangar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 1). The team included Senior Police Inspector of Talegaon Dabhade Police Station Pradeep Rayannavar, Police Inspector (PCB) Anil Devade, Police Constables Taru, Sachin Chavan, and Vyankappa Karbhari.
