Alandi, 26th August 2024: Yesterday, a woman police constable jumped into the Indrayani River in Pune’s Alandi. Alandi Police are now searching for her body. During the investigation, it was revealed that she had called a friend before taking the plunge. However, the exact reason behind her drastic decision remains unclear.

Anushka Suhas Kedar, a 20-year-old woman police constable from Dighi, was stationed at the Pune Rural Police Force’s Headquarters.

She jumped into the Indrayani River from a bridge in the evening. Reportedly, she had called a friend living near Dehu Phata, Alandi, and informed him of her intention to jump. The police have since called the friend in for questioning.

As a member of the Pune Rural Force, Anushka had not reported for work for two days. On Sunday, while her family was at home and resting in the afternoon, she slipped away unnoticed. Her family eventually learned of her disappearance, but they, too, are unaware of the reasons behind her decision to jump. Due to heavy rainfall, the police are facing difficulties in their search as the rising river levels complicate efforts. Officials from the Alandi Police, Alandi Fire Brigade, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are involved in the search.

Search for Lady Cop Extends to Ujani Dam

The Alandi Police are conducting a search from Alandi to Golegaon. The jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) ends at Golegaon, and the Pune Rural Police Force’s jurisdiction begins just before that. The Pune Rural Police have been informed about the search, and police stations up to Ujani Dam have been instructed to assist in the search efforts.
