Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Man Loses Rs 30 Lakh to Fake Share Market App

Nigdi, 24th July 2024: A man from Pimpri Chinchwad was scammed out of nearly Rs 30 lakhs after being lured into investing in a fake share market app. Promised significant gains, he was asked to download the app and invest through it. After making the investments, he realized he had been cheated. The incident occurred online in Akurdi from the 13th of May to the 4th of July this year.

A 39-year-old resident of Akurdi filed a complaint at the Nigdi Police Station. The police have registered a case against the holders of three mobile numbers and 11 bank account numbers from various banks. The case has been filed under IPC Section 420 and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act of 2000.

According to police reports, an unknown person added the complainant to the Avendus Business School WhatsApp group. Individuals named Naresh Rathi and Sarah Singh contacted the complainant and convinced him to buy shares through their apps, promising big and profitable returns. They asked him to invest money and transfer it to different accounts, totaling Rs 29,04,000. When he did not receive the promised profits or his invested amount, he reported the matter to the police.

Police Inspector (Crime) Tejaswini Kadam from Nigdi Police Station is investigating the case further.
