Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Man Cheated of Rs 1.50 Crore in Fake Investment Scheme

Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th July 2024: A man in Pimpri Chinchwad was swindled out of approximately Rs 1.50 crore in a fake investment scheme. The fraudsters used fabricated paperwork and documents to gain his trust before deceiving him. The incident, which occurred between 10th March 2017 and 30th June 2024, led Chandrashekhar Kisan Shinde (47 years old, resident of Tukaram Masulkar Colony) to file a complaint at the Pimpri Police Station.

The Pimpri Police have registered a case against Aparna Ashok Giri (resident of Bibwewadi), Dharma Golhar (resident of Chinchwad), Akash Narendra Sengar (resident of Pradhikaran Nigdi), and the deceased Narendra Sengar (resident of Pradhikaran Nigdi). They are charged under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), along with relevant sections of The Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 1999.

According to police reports, the complainant and his wife were enticed by the accused to invest in Media Idea Company, with the promise of significant returns. The complainant was coerced into investing Rs 53,17,000 in the company based on falsified documents. Initially shown some returns, he continued to invest more money. However, the promised returns were never delivered, resulting in a total defrauding of Rs 1,43,17,000 in investment and returns. The Pimpri police have initiated an investigation into the matter, led by Assistant Police Inspector Dongare from Pimpri Police Station.

Yoga Teacher Scammed in Hinjawadi

In a similar incident under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, a 52-year-old yoga teacher was defrauded of Rs 27,71,980. She placed an order for oil but neither received the product nor a refund of the paid amount. This incident occurred between April 2nd and April 16th of this year in Bavdhan. Hinjawadi Police have registered a case against six persons in connection with this matter.
