Pune: Pet Dog Set on Woman During Argument Over Financial Dispute, Injured Woman Files FIR

Yerwada, 3rd July 2024: A woman was bitten by a dog following an argument over overdue payments from a self-help group. The 40-year-old woman filed a complaint with the Yerwada police, leading to a case being registered against the accused, Jyoti Raghunath Shirke (42), and her nephew Mihir Shirke (25), both residents of Gandhinagar, Yerwada, Pune.

The incident occurred on June 30 at around 9:50 AM. The complainant visited Jyoti Shirke’s residence to demand the money owed to her by the self-help group. During the visit, Jyoti and Mihir allegedly verbally abused the woman and set their pet dog on her.

According to the Yerwada police, the dog bit the complainant three to four times on the right hand, causing significant bleeding. When the injured woman pleaded for help, the accused allegedly locked the door, leaving her outside without assistance. The woman, seriously injured, managed to free herself and went to the Yerwada police station to file a complaint. She later sought medical treatment at Sassoon Hospital.

The Yerwada police have registered a case against Jyoti and Mihir Shirke based on the complaint. Additionally, the police have informed the Municipal Health Department about the dog for further action regarding its health and safety.

Further investigation into the case is being conducted by the Yerwada police. The police have also received multiple complaints about financial fraud involving the accused, who allegedly took money from several women under the pretext of a self-help group.
