Viman Nagar, 12th September 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reopened the pedestrian subway, a vital crossing point for citizens navigating the BRTS line and Nagar Road. The subway had remained closed for over 20 days due to water accumulation and hygiene issues.

Vaishali Bhuktar, Junior Engineer at the Nagar Road Ward Office, provided details about the reopening. She stated, “The pedestrian subway at Viman Nagar Chowk has been accessible to the public since September 11. The closure was prompted by water accumulation and unhygienic conditions. We have implemented a system to pump out water and sludge effectively. With 95% of the work completed, people can now safely utilize the pedestrian subway.”

The pedestrian subway serves commuters using the BRT line at Viman Nagar and local residents of the Nagar Road area, providing a crucial route across the road. It had remained closed for an extended period due to water infiltration from an adjacent sewage channel, leading to waist-deep water accumulation.

Despite local health inspectors and junior engineers’ efforts to address the problem, a delay in implementing the necessary system from higher authorities prolonged the issue. Now, as the work nears completion, pedestrians can once again use the subway without inconvenience.
