Pimpri, 2nd July 2021: The implementation of the ‘pay and park’ policy by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is unnecessary. It is a fine imposed on the poor citizens of the city, City President of NCP Youth Congress Vishal Wakadkar said on Friday.

Due to pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the PCMC administration has implemented the ‘pay and park’ system for two-wheelers and four-wheelers from July 1 at 450 places, including thirteen main roads and flyovers in the city.

A demonstration was held in front of the PCMC building under the leadership of Wakadkar on Friday (July 2). The protestors demanded that the civic body should withdraw the order implementing the ‘pay and park’ policy.

NCP’s PCMC city President Sanjog Waghere Patil, former MLA Vilas Lande, NCP city President Prashant Shitole, Corporator Ajit Gavhane, Pankaj Bhalekar, Vikrant Lande, Mayur Kalate, Corporator Sulakshana Dhar, Pragya Khanolkar, Nikita Kadam, Youth State Office Bearer Vishal Kalbhor, Lala Chinchwade, Yogesh Gawli, Kunal Thopte, Shekhar Patil, Kiran Deshmukh, Madhav Patil, Kavita Kharade, Sangita Pawar, Sham Jagtap, former president of Shikshan Mandal Vijay Lokhande, Yuvati city President Varsha Jagtap and other NCP Youth office bearers were present during the protest.

The protesters made strong declarations against the ruling BJP. Ajit Gawhane, Vijay Lokhande, Prashant Shitole, Sanjog Waghere Patil, and Vilas Lande also strongly criticized the administration and the working of the city BJP.

“In the last six years, the Central government has taken decisions like GST, and demonetization. This has led to the financial crisis in all industries and businesses. People have lost millions of jobs since March 2020 due to the lockdown. The youth in the city have no work. Entrepreneurs and traders are all in financial difficulties. The purchasing power of the citizens has declined. At such a time, the government was expected to lend a helping hand to the distressed, poor workers and common citizens. Instead of helping, the corrupt BJP administration in Pimpri-Chinchwad has plundered the pockets of the common people,” Wakadkar said.

He also demanded that the administration should immediately withdraw the ‘pay and park’ policy.
