Pune: PCMC Completes Verification for Kunbi Certificates, 1,351 Records Identified

Pimpri, 8th December 2023: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has completed the verification process for issuing Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community. After examining 1,34,602 records from various departments, PCMC identified 1,351 records related to the Maratha-Kunbi caste. The comprehensive report has been submitted to the Collector under the signature of Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Khorate.

In compliance with the Maharashtra State Government’s directive, PCMC scrutinized documents and records from 1948 to 1967 and records predating 1948. The examination included documents from the Education, Taxation and Tax Collection, Health, and Accounting departments. A total of 2,222 documents in the Health Department and 11,993 in the Taxation and Tax Collection Department were checked, but no Maratha-Kunbi records were found. The Education Department, with one lakh twenty thousand three hundred eighty-seven records checked, yielded 1,351 Kunbi caste records.

The identified Kunbi records will be organized village-wise and online entries will be made available on the PCMC’s website. Individuals can view these records online and submit a written application to the Municipal Corporation to obtain a copy. Subsequently, one can apply for a Kunbi certificate with the revenue authorities, enclosing the required documentation, to receive the certificate.

Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner and Nodal Officer at Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation stated, “One lakh thirty-four thousand six hundred two documents were examined. One thousand three hundred fifty-one entries were found out of them. The final report in this regard has been submitted to the Pune District Collector. Even after this, the department will continue to check the records.”
