Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th July 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Taxation and Tax Collection Department has collected Rs 432 crores in the first three months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, which is almost 45% of the total tax collected in the entire previous fiscal year 2023/24. Pimpri Chinchwad has a total of 630,000 registered properties, with 54% of taxpayers paying their taxes in the first three months of this fiscal year, primarily to avail of the 5 to 10% early bird discount.

The Taxation and Tax Collection Department has implemented various measures to facilitate property tax payment. Through public awareness campaigns, taxpayers were informed about property tax exemptions, prompting many to pay their taxes in the first quarter. As a result, 54% of total property owners paid their property tax in the first quarter of the current financial year 2024/25.

Out of the total property owners in Pimpri Chinchwad, 357,011 property owners have deposited taxes amounting to Rs 432 crores, with 262,522 (73%) availing the benefits by paying taxes online.

According to Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh of PCMC’s Taxation and Tax Collection Department, about 400 women distributed bills to property owners through the ‘Siddhi’ project, similar to last year. This initiative helped citizens take advantage of the concessions and pay their taxes by June 30. The department’s consistent performance in tax collection is attributed to the efforts of all its employees. Among the 17 tax collection zones, Wakad had the highest number of taxpayers, with 49,036 citizens paying Rs 68 crores, while the Pimpri zone had the lowest, with 3,982 property owners paying only Rs 3 crores. Additionally, 311,067 residential property owners paid around Rs 260 crores in taxes.

Nilesh Deshmukh said, “The Taxation and Tax Collection Department appealed to citizens to avail property tax concessions through public awareness, including SMS. Citizens responded positively and preferred to pay taxes in the first quarter. The timely delivery of property tax concessions and bills, along with the ‘Siddhi’ initiative, played a significant role in achieving the Rs 432 crores tax collection this year. We express our sincere gratitude to citizens for paying taxes on time.”

Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC, stated, “The Department of Taxation and Tax Collection has implemented various innovative initiatives for tax collection since last year. This has created enthusiasm among citizens for paying taxes, and they are taking the initiative to avail tax exemptions by paying taxes in the first quarter. Due to these efforts, tax collection has crossed the Rs 400 crore mark this year, as it did last year. The team’s performance and innovative ideas have maintained consistency in tax collection and motivated citizens to pay taxes in the first quarter.”
