Pune: PCMC Anti-Encroachment Action in Dighi Turns Violent; Family Accused of Assaulting Police

Dighi, 6th September 2024: In front of a Police Station in Pimpri Chinchwad, three juice centres, a tempo, and two-wheelers were being removed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Anti-Encroachment Department due to traffic obstruction. During the removal, three members of the same family verbally abused the officials and even assaulted the police officers. This incident occurred in front of the Dighi Police Station on Wednesday (4th September).

Police Constable Sudhir Harishchandra Dolas (39, resident of Dighi) reported the incident to the Dighi Police Station. The police have registered a case against Kanthram Damodar (52), Ashish Kanthram Damodar (20), and Nalubai Kanthram Damodar (45).

The charges include violations under BNS Sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from performing their duty), 126(2) (offence of wrongful restraint), 224 (threat of injury to a public servant), 296 (obscene acts and songs), 221 (obstructing a public servant while they are performing their public duties), 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 351(3) (serious threats given to a person), 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation), 125(A) (acts that endanger the life or personal safety of others), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

According to police reports, the accused blocked traffic for citizens and police officers coming and going to Dighi Police Station by parking three juice cars, a Tempo, and a two-wheeler. When the anti-encroachment department officials arrived to remove the vehicles, the accused abused them and obstructed their work. Additionally, they assaulted the police and attempted to set themselves and the police on fire by throwing petrol. Assistant Police Inspector Ambhore from Dighi Police Station is investigating the matter further.
