Pune 4th Oct 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had spent Rs 1.5 Crore to make movable immersion tanks available for the ganesh visarjan. The initiative was criticised by the activists and citizens claiming that only few will use it as many prefer to walk upto the permanent immersion tanks of rivers to immerse their idols.

According to the officials details, a total of around 13% citizens from the city have immersed their idols in the movable immersion tanks while majority of them chose to walk upto permanent immersion tanks built by the civic body. According to officials, a total of 5,61,428 idols were immersed in the city this year of which only 59,126 were immersed in the movable immersion tanks.

The municipal corporation had floated a tender to make 150 movable immersion tanks available for the immersion on visarjan day in the city. The municipal corporation faced criticism for the initiative as people claimed that the idea was only good for the pandemic period. The idea of movable immersion tanks was introduced during the COVID Pandemic as the administration wanted people to avoid going out and immerse their idols at their doorstep.
