Pune, 7th June 2021: “Over-crowding is happening in some places as the shops are open again. However, if people come out in huge numbers and crowd the shops then we will have to take a tough decision regarding keeping all shops open or not. We may have to impose an odd-even rule on shops to lessen the crowding,” said Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister.

He also said Coronavirus disease (COVID19) cases have declined in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Thus, we had given permission to keep the shops open till 2 pm last week. But, people are not following social distancing protocols and overcrowding the markets and shops. (Now shops are allowed to open till 4 pm)

He added “The positivity rate has gone down but that does not mean Covid is gone. We must not venture out of home for unnecessary reasons. We understand that people are now tired of lockdowns and most of them have their important work pending but that does not mean we should behave any way you want and break rules.”

“If the situation remains the same then we will have to impose the P-1, P-2 system in Pune which means the shops will be open on odd days. However, we do not want to take this decision, hence, it is important that we ensure overcrowding does not happen,” Pawar said.
