Pune Observes Police Commemoration Day, Pays Tribute to Officers Who Died in the Line of Duty

Pune, 22nd October 2024: Police Commemoration Day 2024 was observed by Pune Police yesterday at their Centre for Police Research (CPR) in Pashan, Pune, along with the rest of the nation. The event was attended by several current and former senior police officials. Police Commemoration Day is marked every year on 21st October to honor the memory of the 10 brave soldiers of the Central Paramilitary Police Force who lost their lives in a surprise attack by Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Hotspring in 1959.

Since then, 21st October has been recognized as Police Commemoration Day across police forces in India. On this day, tributes are paid nationwide to police officers and personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty over the past year. Yesterday, between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM, Pune police forces paid their respects at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial on Pashan Road, Maharashtra State CPR, Pashan, Pune.

The event saw the presence of Director Emeritus of the Maharashtra Intelligence Academy (MIA) Datta Padsalgikar, Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Additional DGP Deepak Pandey, Special IG Kolhapur Zone Sunil Phulari, Pune Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Pimpri Chinchwad JCP Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Pimpri Chinchwad Additional CP Vasant Pardeshi, and Pune Additional CPs Arvind Chauriya, Shailesh Balkawade, and Manoj Patil. Inspector General of MT Department Atul Patil, Pune Rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh, and Pune RPF SP Tushai Doshi, along with other senior police officials from Pune District and some retired officers, also attended the event.

During the ceremony, three policemen—PSI Prakash Nana Shinde and Police Constables Rahul Gopichand Pawar and Vaibhav Sunil Wagh—who were martyred while on duty from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024, were honored. A ceremonial parade was held in their memory. Additionally, the sacrifices of all 214 police officials across the country, who were martyred at various levels, were remembered and paid tribute to during the event.
