Pune, 31 March 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to stop collecting the garbage from the housing societies that generate over 100 Kg of garbage every day from April 1.  Likewise, the civic body will also take action against the societies that will not process the garbage, said additional commissioner Dr Kunal Khemnar.

The garbage problem in the city is becoming serious and the garbage treatment plant of PMC is not working in its full capacity. This led to the dumping of three to four Tonnes Kg of garbage every day.

Considering this, PMC has decided that the housing societies that generate over 100 Kg of garbage every day, will have to process their garbage. PMC had provided guidance and logistics to several societies to construct the garbage plants, but many built them but they are not using them.

“Thus, we have decided to take action against those who despite having the garbage treatment plant is sending to civic garbage van”, said Khemnaar adding that the societies will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 for not adhering to the rules.
