Most drivers found working overtime are with the buses owned by contractors since many of them are not provided fixed salaries and they are paid based on number trips or hours they work. The PMPML officials have found this to be one of the major reasons for recent accidents reported in the city as the majority of the accidents were reported with the buses owned by contractors.

However, the PMPML CMD has now instructed the contractors to make sure that no driver works overtime. Besides, he has also advised them to pay a fixed salary to the drivers to ensure that the drivers also do not face financial problems. According to the official data, there are a total of 2,181 buses in the PMPML fleet including around 1,100 to 1,200 owned by contractors and 800 to 900 buses owned by the PMPML.
