Pune News: Wagholi Self-Immolation Victim Succumbs to Injuries During Treatment

Wagholi, 19th February 2024: The young individual who set himself alight on the premises of Wagholi police station due to abusive behaviour passed away this morning while undergoing treatment. The deceased has been identified as Rohidas Ashok Jadhav (32 years old, resident of Wagholi).

The incident occurred in front of the Wagholi police post on 13th February. Jadhav Gambhir sustained severe burns in the incident and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital. In response to this case, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil has suspended Sub-Inspector Ashok Ghegde, Police Constable Kailas Ugle, and Police Constable Mahendra Shinde from Wagholi Police Post.

Lonikand police had recorded a non-cognizable offence. In the incident involving Rohidas Jadhav’s attempt to commit suicide by self-immolation, the police had filed a case against 15 individuals, including a construction worker, for caste-based abuse and pressurisation of suicide. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar promptly reassigned the Senior Police Inspector of Lonikand Police Station.
