Pune-Nashik Green Corridor Project Moves Closer to Execution

Pune, 21st March 2025: The much-anticipated Pune-Nashik Green Corridor (Industrial) project has taken a significant step forward as the Maharashtra State Government has issued a notification to commence the land acquisition process. Under this directive, the acquisition of 1,545 hectares of land will begin soon.
Key Developments in the Project
The 134-kilometer industrial expressway was proposed to address traffic congestion between Pune and Nashik while fostering industrial growth along the corridor. However, the project faced delays due to an overlapping proposal by Maha-Metro, which prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a Pune-Nashik railway line running parallel to the expressway. This created uncertainty regarding which project should be prioritized.
To resolve the issue, the government directed a technical and financial feasibility study for the expressway two years ago. Consequently, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) appointed a consulting firm to prepare the DPR. However, during this period, local farmers and residents voiced their opposition to the project, prompting Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to advise a reconsideration.
Despite this, the state government reissued a notification last year to initiate land acquisition, but as work did not commence, the notification lapsed. Now, with a fresh notification issued, the project is set to move forward.
Project Details and Expected Impact
According to MSRDC officials, the Pune-Nashik expressway is estimated to cost ₹15,696 crore, including land acquisition expenses.
The project is expected to:
Reduce travel time between Pune and Nashik to 2 to 2.5 hours.
Boost industrial development in Pune and surrounding regions.
Enhance agricultural trade by improving connectivity between Nashik’s agricultural markets and Pune’s industrial sector.
With the land acquisition process now formally initiated, the Pune-Nashik Green Corridor project is poised to transform connectivity and drive economic growth in the region.
