Rahatani, 6th November 2023: Former opposition leader Nana Kate has assured Punawale citizens of his commitment to addressing concerns regarding a proposed garbage depot. Residents organised a bike rally against the depot and subsequently met with Kate to request his assistance in seeking a resolution.

In 2008, the Municipal Corporation approved a solid waste management project in Punawale, which was then less urbanized. However, the area’s population has since grown to over one lakh residents, attracted by its natural surroundings, proximity to an IT park, and essential amenities. The proposed waste depot faces opposition from citizens, while the municipal administration is still in the process of land acquisition in Chandrapur.

Corporater Nana Kate said, “There are several elite societies surrounding the planned waste depot at Punawale. The residents of this depot will suffer. Many IT employees have settled in this area. Large buildings have been erected around this waste depot. I am going to discuss with the Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar that the Punawale Garbage Depot in the centre should be shifted to another part of the city considering human life.”
