Pune Municipal Corporation Hires Transgenders Workers To Enhance Efficiency
Pune, 17th May 2023: The administration of Pune Municipal Corporation is taking proactive measures to accelerate work across various departments by focusing on hiring additional manpower. In a bid to ensure equal treatment for all and enhance efficiency, the Municipal Corporation has decided to recruit skilled workers from transgender communities.
To safeguard the Municipal Corporation’s revenue, a total of 25 transgender workers have been selected for experimental contractual employment. Several months ago, the municipal administration initiated a recruitment process to bring in skilled manpower for various departments. During this period, Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of the Security Department, proposed prioritizing the engagement of transgender workers across different departments within the PMC.
Taking prompt notice of this proposal, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Vikram Kumar and Additional Commissioner Kunal Khemnar directed 25 selected transgender workers to promptly commence their duties under the contractor, while the remaining workers will join gradually in a phased manner.
The selected transgender individuals will be responsible for safeguarding the assets and facilities of various Municipal Corporation locations. They will be assigned tasks at Kamala Nehru Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Museum, Municipal Building, and the Unauthorized Construction Removal and Encroachment Department.
In an effort to foster harmonious relationships between the officers, employees of the Municipal Corporation, and the transgender workers, a committee comprising charitable organizations working for the welfare of these workers will be established. This committee aims to create public awareness and promote amicable interactions within the organization. The Municipal Corporation has expressed its commitment to integrating transgender workers into the social mainstream and implementing people-centric initiatives for their betterment.
