Pune, 31st July 2023: Citizens faced challenges in making their tax payments as the Property Tax department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) experienced a server outage.

Today (July 31) was the last day for availing a 5 percent rebate on general tax payments, and those with outstanding arrears were to face a 2 percent penalty (Shasti Kar). However, due to the server issues, accessing the PMC Property Tax centers became difficult, causing frustration and inconvenience for taxpayers.

Ajit Deshmukh, the Head of the Property Tax Department at PMC, acknowledged the server disruption that began at 11 am and resumed at a slower speed around 2:30 pm. This technical glitch coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, resulting in altered traffic patterns within the city.

In light of these circumstances, the PMC made a crucial decision to extend the deadline for property tax payment until August 2. During the period from May 15 to July 31, the Pune Municipal Corporation offered a 5 to 10 percent discount on residential property tax to citizens, leading to a revenue collection of over Rs 1100 crores in just two and a half months.

As today marked the last day to avail of the tax discount, citizens were actively attempting to pay their taxes on time. Online transactions and in-person visits to the civic amenities office in the Regional Office were the primary means of tax payment. However, the surge in online tax payments led to a temporary collapse of the municipal corporation’s online system.
