Pune, 3rd February 2024: The survey to assess the backwardness of the Maratha community within Pune Municipal Corporation limits gained significant momentum with a two-day extension, ultimately reaching a commendable 100 percent completion. Initiated by the municipal administration to evaluate the backward status for potential reservation benefits, the survey successfully covered over thirteen lakh houses in the city.

The Maharashtra state government mandated the survey, setting a deadline of January 31. Undertaken by 3,050 employees, including clerks, other staff members, school principals, and teachers, the municipal administration faced the daunting task of surveying 12 lakh houses in Pune city.

Recognizing the scale and population of the city, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar sought a five-day extension for the survey. However, the state government granted a two-day extension, compelling the municipal administration to conclude the survey by February 2.

Initially, 82 percent of the survey, covering 9 lakh 65 thousand households, was completed within the original time frame. Subsequently, the municipal administration accelerated efforts, achieving 97 percent completion by February 1, encompassing 11 lakh 30 thousand houses.

While the survey initially focused on houses registered with the Municipal Corporation, additional emphasis was placed on settlements and other areas in the city. This strategic approach contributed to a further increase in the survey percentage. On February 2, the survey efforts continued with heightened intensity until 10:00 p.m., ultimately achieving a 100 percent completion.

Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation and Nodal Officer for the survey, Dr. Chetna Kerure, confirmed that the survey of the Maratha community in the city surpassed the 100 percent mark, encompassing a total of more than 13 lakh houses.
