Pune: MSEDCL Refutes PMC’s Allegations of Power Disruptions Affecting Water Supply
Pune, 2nd September 2024: It was alleged that the water supply was disrupted due to continuous power supply interruptions affecting various Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) water schemes. However, after verifying PMC’s claims, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has clarified that the power supply to these schemes has been consistent, even during heavy rains in July and August.
MSEDCL noted that any power disruptions were due to maintenance work conducted by PMC itself. Specifically, at the Parvati Water Purification Center, power was cut for internal electrical repairs under PMC’s responsibility.
According to a press release from MSEDCL, high-pressure power connections were provided to PMC for both the Parvati and Tukai Nagar water supply schemes, crucial for Pune’s Water Supply.
On 4th July, power was shut off for 4 hours and 38 minutes at the Parvati Water Plant for internal repairs. On 5th August, there was a 2-hour and 22-minute outage due to a PMC’s electrical system failure, and on 6th August, the supply was off for 6 hours and 52 minutes for further repairs. Similarly, the Tukai Nagar water supply experienced a 2-hour power outage on 4th July 4 due to PMC maintenance.
MSEDCL also reported that five high-pressure connections were provided at Khadakwasla Dam and other locations. Power interruptions at Khadakwasla Dam on 3rd August and 13th August lasted 50 minutes and 1 hour and 5 minutes, respectively, but these were caused by issues within the PMC’s electrical system.
Additionally, power interruptions at the Cantonment Water Supply Center occurred for 30 minutes on August 22 and 15 minutes on August 24. Power supply to Padmavati and Chattushringi Hydropower Stations has been uninterrupted since July. MSEDCL is taking special measures to ensure smooth power supply to water schemes and has maintained daily communication with district officials via email and WhatsApp.
MSEDCL has emphasized that PMC’s claims about power supply disruptions being MSEDCL’s responsibility are incorrect. The disruptions were due to PMC’s internal maintenance and repairs, and MSEDCL has found no evidence supporting PMC’s allegations.
