Mohammadwadi, 5th July 2024: Residents of Mohammadwadi and Undri HillTop Nyati County Societies in Pune are grappling with daily power outages, leading to significant disruptions in their daily lives. Despite numerous complaints, the issue remains unresolved, causing immense frustration among the locals.

In a letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MSEDCL Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, Sunil Koloti, Sunil Aiyer and Nadeem Inamdar of Team MURWD Foundation highlighted the severity of the situation. Koloti expressed deep concern over the frequent power failures, which sometimes last for hours. He emphasized that residents consistently pay their MSEDCL bills on time, yet face disconnection threats for minor delays. “In the current situation, what should be done with MSEDCL people working on the ground?” Koloti questioned.

Koloti also pointed out specific infrastructure issues exacerbating the problem. He cited the high tension wires near Dorabjee Paradise Bungalow in Mohammadwadi, which have caused severe commuting issues due to road closures. “The miscommunication between agencies has resulted in inconvenience for local residents already dealing with multiple issues,” Koloti stated.

Additionally, he highlighted the danger posed by poles and overhead wires at Kad Nagar Chowk, which have compromised resident safety for over a year and a half. Despite road widening efforts by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), MSEDCL has not relocated its infrastructure, leading to frequent traffic congestion and accidents.

Koloti criticized the outdated infrastructure in the area, which is a major cause of frequent power supply disruptions. These power failures have resulted in several adverse effects, including:
Inconvenience to citizens, particularly senior citizens and children
Food spoilage and water scarcity due to pump failures
Disruption of work-from-home and business activities
Disturbance to school and college-going students
Damage to electrical appliances
Residents have also reported a lack of response from MSEDCL to complaints, further aggravating their frustration.

In his letter, Koloti urged the authorities to identify the root cause of the problem and take corrective measures. He called for an upgrade of the infrastructure to ensure a reliable power supply and the establishment of a prompt response team to address power failures swiftly.

“We request a swift resolution to this issue, which is causing a lot of trouble to the residents,” Koloti concluded.

The residents of Mohammadwadi and Undri HillTop Nyati County await a prompt response from the authorities to alleviate their ongoing plight.
