Pune: MLA Kailas Patil Demands To Cancel Appointment Of New SPPU Pro Vice Chancellor, Writes To Governor

Pune 28th August 2023: An MLA of Shivsena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray party Kailas Patil has written a letter to Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Baas demanding cancellation of appointment of newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Kailas Ghadge Patil, an MLA from Dharashiv has urged the governor to appoint someone else for the post of vice-chancellor of the university.

He has stated in his letter that the newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Parag Kalkar has a criminal record as he was booked under sections 406, 409 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following an FIR registered against him at a police station in Pimpri Chinchwad. Patil said that the university has a good reputation across the world and is known as the Oxforb of the East hence it is not appropriate to appoint a person with criminal background to such an important position. he further stated that the appointment has damaged the tradition and reputation of Savitribai Phule Pune University.

It may be noted that state president of Congress Nana Patole had also objected to the appointment of Parag Kalkar as Pro Vice-Chancellor. Patole in his social media port had alleged that the appointment of new Pro Vice-Chancellor was made under political pressure and it will have an impact on the future of the university. He had stated that the people having criminal background should not be appointed to the important position of the university.

It may be noted that Dr Parag Kalkar was appointed as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university by the management council last week. He was also nominated for the post of Vice-Chancellor earlier.
