Pune: MLA Bhimrao Tapkir Seeks Shivaji Maharaj Statue at Chandni Chowk
Pune, 27th July 2023: On Wednesday Legislative Assembly session saw Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir passionately advocating for the installation of a grand equestrian statue of the legendary Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, at the Chandni Chowk flyover area in the Khadakwasla Constituency.
The ongoing construction of the Chandni Chowk flyover, along with alternative service roads, is nearing completion, and its inauguration is expected shortly. Situated at a crucial traffic junction on the busy Mumbai-Bengaluru route through Pune city, the Chandni Chowk area offers a prime opportunity to pay homage to the great Maratha ruler and instill inspiration in the millions of daily commuters.
Adjacent to the forthcoming flyover stands the esteemed National Defense Academy, a renowned institute that nurtures and trains young students to become officers in the Indian Defense Forces. MLA Tapkir’s proposal to install a majestic equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at this strategic location aims to symbolize valor, leadership, and serve as an inspiration for the nation’s future defenders.
To materialize this noble initiative, MLA Bhimrao Tapkir has formally written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration, urging them to allocate substantial funds for the project. While the tribute to the revered ruler holds immense importance, the Municipal Commissioner is yet to grant the necessary funding for its realization.
