Pune Metro’s Daily Passenger Count Exceeds One Lakh in July

Pune, 01st August 2024: Pune Metro has witnessed a significant surge in passenger numbers since the inauguration of the Ruby Hall Clinic Metro Station to Ramwadi Metro Station route on March 6, 2024. From July 1 to July 31, 2024, the service recorded a total of 31,20,293 passengers, averaging 106,101 daily commuters. During this period, Pune Metro generated an income of Rs. 4,98,04,817.

The passenger traffic split reveals that 1,070,655 commuters traveled on the PCMC Metro Station to District Court Metro Station route (Purple Line 1), while 2,049,638 used the Vanaz Metro Station to Ramwadi Metro Station route (Aqua Line 2). It was observed that the Vanaz-Ramwadi route had a higher passenger count compared to the PCMC-District Court route.

The “One Pune Card” offered by Pune Metro has been well-received, with 53,025 cards sold to date, including 11,646 student cards. The Pune Metro Vidyarthi Pass offers students a 30% discount on fares, encouraging extensive usage.

Pune Metro currently operates 24 stations. The stations with the highest passenger numbers are:
– PCMC Station: Approx. 14,000 passengers/day
– Ramwadi Station: Approx. 11,000 passengers/day
– Pune Railway Metro Station: Approx. 8,000 passengers/day
– Vanaz Station: Approx. 7,500 passengers/day
– Nal Stop Station: Approx. 7,000 passengers/day

Additionally, approximately 24,878 passengers transfer daily between the Purple and Aqua Lines at the District Court Interchange Metro Station.

The collaboration between Pune Metro and PMPML has introduced a feeder bus service on 13 routes, currently serving over 10,000 passengers daily. The feeder service from Ramwadi Station to the airport serves over 400 passengers daily, while the route to EON IT Park serves over 1,000 passengers.

The Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi route’s opening saw daily passenger counts rise from 55,000 to over 100,000 within three months.

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, commented, “The increase in passenger numbers for Pune Metro is very encouraging. The growing number of passengers indicates a strengthening public transport system. So far, 53,025 passengers have obtained One Pune Card, allowing them to travel on the metro independently. The feeder services from Ramwadi Metro Station to the airport and EON IT Park are receiving a positive response. PMPML and Maha Metro are working diligently to expand feeder services to more routes.”

Pune Metro’s continued expansion and the rising number of commuters highlight its growing importance as a key component of the city’s public transportation infrastructure.
