Pune, 18th August 2024: The Maha Metro is prioritizing the completion of the Civil Court to Swargate stretch before starting on the significant Katraj extension, which received the central government’s approval last Friday.

Initially, the Civil Court to Swargate stretch was expected to be open to the public in August. However, officials now report that the final stages of construction are still ongoing and should be completed in the coming days. “With the work nearing completion, Maha Metro has reached out to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to arrange safety inspections for the entire stretch, including the three stations. We aim to finalize all necessary procedures to make this route operational by mid-September,” an official from Maha Metro stated.

Regular commuters are hopeful that the Swargate line will be up and running by the end of Ganeshotsav.

In February 2024, Maha Metro conducted trial runs of the rakes between Civil Court and Swargate.

Maha Metro officials emphasized that while they plan to prioritize the opening of the Civil Court to Swargate stretch, they are also preparing to begin work on the Katraj extension simultaneously.
