Pune, 11th October 2024: Heavy rain accompanied by thunder was recorded in Mumbai on Thursday evening (10th October). The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city. Other parts of Maharashtra are also experiencing a change in weather conditions, with many districts likely to see rainfall in the coming days.

Due to the sudden downpour on Thursday, citizens of Mumbai faced significant difficulties while commuting home from work. The city and its suburbs experienced heavy rain for the second consecutive day. The rain, accompanied by lightning, flooded several roads, causing traffic to slow down. Vehicular movement was reduced due to waterlogging in the Hindmata area, although rail traffic remained unaffected.

The IMD has predicted rain with thunderstorms in Mumbai over the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for Friday due to the rains on Thursday night, which led to waterlogging in many areas.

The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall in several parts of the state, including Pune. Significant rainfall was recorded on the 9th and 10th of October in 11 districts of Vidarbha, while on the 10th and 11th of October, moderate rainfall is likely in 10 districts, namely Khandesh, Nashik, Nagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur. However, light rain is expected in Mumbai and Konkan, with clearer weather anticipated from 14th October.

Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts are also likely to experience rain over the next 24 hours. Kolhapur and Satara districts have been alerted due to heavy rainfall, while Mumbai and Konkan are expected to receive light rain until Sunday, 13th October.

According to the Nagpur Division of the IMD, there is a possibility of rain in Vidarbha and the state over the next one to two days. It is predicted that the situation regarding return rains will be clearer by 15th October. This poses a distress warning for farmers, as rainfall is expected during the crucial harvesting period.
