Pune: Man Killed After Son’s Interfaith Marriage in Yerwada

Yerwada, 24th June 2024: In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old man was killed following a dispute linked to his son’s interfaith marriage. The incident occurred today at around 1:45 PM in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Yerwada, within the jurisdiction of the Yerwada Police Station, Pune city police.

The deceased, identified as Katalu Kachru Lahade, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, was allegedly stabbed in the face and head with a sharp weapon by Ismail Riaz Shaikh, 25, a laborer residing in the same area. The conflict arose because Shaikh’s sister had eloped with Lahade’s son, leading to the fatal confrontation.

“The main accused, Ismail Riaz Shaikh, has been detained. His accomplice, Sanket Umesh Gupta, 21, also a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, is under custody,” stated Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke, in-charge of the Yerwada police station.

The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Inspector Shelke assured that appropriate measures have been taken at the spot, and there are no concerns regarding law and order at this time.
