Pune: Man Defrauded of Over Rs 40 Lakhs in Facebook Task Scam in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Kasarwadi, 5th July 2024: A man has been defrauded of over Rs 40 lakhs by an unidentified individual in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The scam involved fraudulent Facebook tasks that promised substantial returns. The incident took place between 26th November and 6th December 2023 in Kasarwadi.
A 30-year-old resident of Kasarwadi reported the incident to Bhosari Police Station yesterday. The police have registered a case against the holder of phone number 9416962965.
The case includes charges under IPC Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act of 2000.
According to police reports, the complainant received a Telegram message from the accused on 26th November 2023. After gaining the complainant’s trust by instructing him to complete a Facebook task and invest money for promised returns, the complainant invested Rs 40,94,475 through various bank accounts. As he neither received the promised returns nor his invested amount back, he filed a complaint with the police. Senior Police Inspector Nitin Phatangare of Bhosari Police Station is leading the investigation.
