Pune: Man Arrested For Kidnapping And Raping Woman Who Was Returning From Work At Night In Kharadi

Vishrantwadi, January 3, 2021: A 24-year-old youth from Kharadi has been arrested by Pune city police for allegedly abducting and raping a woman who was returning from work in the wee hours of December 31. He had brutally assaulted the girl who has sustained injuries to internal organs.
The arrested person has been identified as Amol Dhawane, a resident of Kharadi. He runs a mobile shop in Hinjewadi.
The 20-year-old girl from Dhanori area has lodged a complaint in this regard with Vishrantwadi police station. The shocking incident took place between 3 am to 4 am on Thursday (December 31).
According to police, the victim works in a call center in Kharadi area. She was going home to Dhanori on a two-wheeler around 3 am when the accused started chasing her. He intercepted her in Tingrenagar area and assaulted her before forcibly taking her to an isolated place in Kharadi area.
At that place, the accused raped the girl. Later he released her near Gunjan Chowk in Yerwada. She informed her friend about the incident and they approached the police. The girl was admitted to Sassoon General Hospital due to severe injuries. A case of abduction, rape and assault was registered by the police.
While investigating the case, policeman Somnath Khalsode received information about the accused who was picked up from Hinjewadi by a police team.
The accused was produced before the Khadki cantonment court yesterday and he has been remanded to police custody till January 7 for further investigation.
