Pune Man Arrested for Betting on IPL Cricket Match
Pune, 7th April 2023: Pune Police have arrested a man for allegedly taking bets on an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Akash Dharampal Goyal (30), a resident of Lohegaon, was taken into custody on April 6th after police received a tip-off that he was involved in cricket betting near Gunjan Talkies in Yerwada.
Officers from the Crime Branch Unit-3 of Pune City police searched the Gunjan Talkies area and later found Goyal near Bhola Pan Shop. His mobile phone was seized, and it was discovered that he had been placing bets on IPL matches since March 31st.
Four other individuals who were playing with Goyal at the time were also named in the case and are being investigated under the Maharashtra Gambling Act. The mobile phone used for betting was seized from Goyal, and a case has been registered against him at Yerwada Police Station.
The operation was led by Senior Police Inspector Srihari Bahirat, ASI Santosh Kshirsagar and police personnel Sharad Vakse, Sujit Pawar, Sanjiv Kalambe and Satish Katrale.
