Pune: Mahindra Thar Rented via Zoomcar Fraudulently Sold, Woman Cheated of Rs 14 Lakh

Bibwewadi, 10th June 2024: A car rented through the Zoomcar App in Pune was fraudulently sold in Dhule district, Maharashtra, resulting in a woman being duped of more than Rs 14 lakh. The incident occurred on 6th May around 4 PM in Gagan Vihar Society, Bibwewadi.

Poonam Sumit Mundra (39), a resident of Bibwewadi, filed a complaint at Market Yard Police Station regarding the incident. The police have registered a case against three individuals: Jagannath Khude (27) from Kesnand Phata, Wagholi, Ganesh Pagare, and Dilip alias Bunty Choure, whose full name and address are not known. The case has been registered under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

According to police reports, the complainant owned a Mahindra Thar car, which she decided to rent out through Zoomcar as it was not being used frequently. The accused, Khude, booked the Thar on Zoomcar. Trusting him, the complainant handed over the car, valued at over Rs 14 lakh, to Khude. However, Khude, along with Pagare and Choure, colluded and sold the car to Jayesh Gunjal in Dhule without informing the complainant. When the car was not returned to her after the rental period ended, the complainant realized she had been duped. She promptly reported the matter to Market Yard Police Station, who are currently investigating the case further.
