Pune: Maharashtra Witnesses Unseasonal Rainfall; IMD Issues Weather Alerts

Pune, 2nd April 2025: Several districts across Maharashtra experienced unseasonal rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Tuesday (1st April), bringing relief from the scorching heat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for various regions, predicting continued rain and thunderstorms in the coming days.
On Monday evening, around 8:35 pm, districts such as Satara, Pune, and Ahilyanagar witnessed heavy showers and lightning. Earlier in the afternoon, at approximately 4:40 pm, similar weather conditions were reported in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, and Pune. The rainfall provided much-needed respite from the rising summer temperatures.
In Pune, light showers were recorded in areas like Shivane and Sinhagad Road. The city had been experiencing overcast conditions for the past few days, and the rain brought some relief to the residents.
The IMD has issued an alert for multiple districts, warning of thunderstorms with lightning. The department has urged citizens to remain cautious. The onset of rain in early April has also led to a slight dip in temperatures across Maharashtra.
For Wednesday (2nd April), the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for several regions, including Marathwada, Western Maharashtra, and parts of Vidarbha. The affected districts include Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Amravati, and Chandrapur, where hailstorms and thunderstorms are expected.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been issued for the Konkan and Khandesh regions, covering districts such as Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon. These areas may witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms.
Additionally, the IMD has placed Kolhapur, Sangli, Akola, Bhandara, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal under a Yellow Alert for 2nd April advising residents to take necessary precautions.
The sudden weather change is expected to bring a temporary drop in temperatures, offering relief from the intense summer heat. Authorities have urged citizens to stay updated with official advisories and take appropriate safety measures amid the unpredictable weather conditions.
