Pune, 2nd June 2024: In response to recent criticism over the handling of the Pune Porsche car crash case, the Maharashtra Women and Child Development (WCD) department has announced plans to conduct sensitization workshops for members of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) across the state.

Women and Child Development Commissioner Prashant Narnaware stated that the workshops will commence this month. “The workshops aim to familiarize the board members with various provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and ensure the proper application of the law,” Narnaware explained.

This initiative follows the WCD department’s formation of a five-member committee to investigate the Pune JJB’s decision to grant bail to the 17-year-old accused in the Porsche crash case, a decision that ignited public outrage.

The WCD department’s approach seeks to enhance the understanding and application of juvenile justice laws, ensuring that board members are well-equipped to handle such sensitive cases in the future.
