Pune: Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh Takes Over as Chief of Staff at Army’s Southern Command
Pune, 2nd October 2024: Lieutenant General Shrinjay Pratap Singh, a distinguished officer with the Yudh Seva Medal, has assumed the role of Chief of Staff at the Southern Command Headquarters, Pune, effective 1st October 2024. An alumnus of the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, Lt Gen Singh is a second-generation officer who was commissioned into the Infantry on 10th June 1989.
Throughout his illustrious career, Lt Gen Singh has served in a wide range of terrains and operational areas, commanding an Infantry Battalion in the Semi-Desert Sector, a Brigade engaged in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism operations in the Kashmir Valley, a Division on the Northern borders, and a Corps on the Western front in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. For his exemplary leadership as a Brigade Commander, he was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal.
Lt Gen Singh’s military education is equally distinguished. He made it through the highly competitive Defence Staff Selection Course and has completed the Higher Command Course at the Army War College in Mhow. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree from Madras University, an MPhil from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, and a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
In his previous roles, Lt Gen Singh has held several important staff appointments. These include serving in the Military Operations Directorate, as Colonel (General Staff) of an Infantry Division in the Valley, and as Brigadier General Staff at Headquarters 15 Corps. His vast operational and strategic experience makes him a highly qualified leader for his new appointment at the Southern Command.
As Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Singh is expected to bring his vast expertise to the headquarters, playing a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the Southern Command, which is one of the largest and most critical formations of the Indian Army.
