Lonavala, 15th July 2024: On Sunday, Lonavla city police booked 12 individuals for entering restricted zones. Five of them were found at a waterfall on a hill near Ghubad Lake, while the other seven were discovered at a waterfall near the Sahara Bridge. All were charged under Section 223 (disobedience to orders promulgated by public servants) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Pune district administration has imposed prohibitory orders at various popular picnic spots, including Bhushi Dam, to ensure tourist safety. These orders followed a tragic incident on June 30, when five family members from Hadapsar, Pune, were swept away at Bhushi Dam.

A Lonavla police officer stated that state forest department officials and police personnel are patrolling the hilly areas. “During these checks, seven men were found on the hillock near the Sahara Bridge around 11 am. They are from Satara, Beed, and Mumbai,” the officer said.

He also mentioned that five men from Kalewadi in Pune were found near Ghubad Lake around 1:30 pm. “Forest department constable Sandip Ramgude is the complainant in both cases,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Pune rural police evacuated Bhushi Dam at around 5:30 pm on Sunday. “The dam saw a high influx of tourists since morning. We have stationed police personnel at the site, and all visitors were evacuated by 5:30 pm,” a police officer reported.
