Lonavala, 14th July 2024: The Lonavala Police have issued a safety advisory urging tourists to avoid the Bhushi Dam area due to the high-speed water flow resulting from continuous heavy rainfall. The picturesque Bhushi Dam, a popular tourist spot, has become hazardous as water cascades down its steps at an alarming speed.

In the past 24 hours, Lonavala has recorded 241.5 mm of rain, exacerbating the situation. The region has been experiencing relentless rain since last Saturday, leading to significant water accumulation. The Bhushi Dam has overflowed, creating a dangerous situation where the forceful water flow poses a risk to anyone attempting to stand in it.

Early this morning, police officials conducted an inspection of the Bhushi Dam area. Following their assessment, they issued an urgent appeal to tourists to refrain from entering the dam vicinity. The fast-flowing water makes it easy for individuals to be swept away, posing a severe risk to their safety.

In addition to the dam, the waterfalls in the mountainous areas around Lonavala have also surged, creating further hazards. The Lonavala Police, in conjunction with the municipal council administration, have cautioned tourists against stopping under these waterfalls or venturing into the mountainous regions due to the potential dangers.

This year’s rainfall has already surpassed last year’s totals, and with the ongoing misty rain, Lonavala is expected to see a significant influx of tourists. The Lonavala Police continue to remind tourists to prioritize their safety and the safety of others while traveling in the area.
