Pune, 22nd June 2021: After the unlock, many places saw a sudden surge in tourists and other activities. Lonavala area has always been a favourite place for tourists and many people have visited the place in the last couple of weeks. However, the district administration has now closed the place due to overcrowding. Recently, it was found that the Covid-19 precautions were not followed in these places.

The administration has also put up posters near these tourist places and on Mumbai-Pune Expressway so that tourists would know about the new decision. They have also warned of action against rule-breakers under Disaster Management Act 2005 and IPC Section 188.

It is learned that because of overcrowding, administration and locals were worried about rising Covid-19 cases. Also, the traffic jams at Khandala, Karla, and Vehergaon made it impossible for locals to step out of their house.

Thus, after consulting police and locals, the Collector’s office revised the rules and shut off these tourist spots. Vehergaon Gram Panchayat also requested Lonavala Rural Police Station to close the Karla Cave and Ekvira Devi Mandir. Tourists must note that the Bhaje village panchayat has set up a checkpoint and no vehicles are allowed to go to the waterfalls.
