Pune, 1st October 2023: At Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) accused members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Lokayat Organization of attacking students who declined to join their ranks. However, the Lokayat organization has denied these allegations, asserting that none of its members were present during the incident.

In Savitribai Phule Pune University, various organizations reportedly attempted to forcibly enroll students, leading to confrontations when some students refused to participate. ABVP demanded strict action against the individuals involved in the incident, including SFI and Lokayat members. However, the Lokayat organization clarified that it had no connection to the incident.

The Lokayat organization emphasized its commitment to working in a constitutional manner and spreading the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. The organization stated that it does not conduct membership registration drives and had no involvement in the membership registration program at Pune University on November 1, 2023. The Lokayat Sangathan categorically denied ABVP’s allegations against its members as completely false.

During the incident, SFI’s state president and central committee member Somnath Nirmal, city secretary Abhishek Shinde, and Ganesh Jankar were injured, along with other activists. SFI accused ABVP of resorting to violence without cause, disrupting the peaceful membership registration program. According to SFI, the university’s security department initially remained passive but eventually intervened in the situation.
