Pune: Spotlight at the Loft Forum Presents “Play On Words” – A Musical Homage to P.G. Wodehouse and Broadway Legends
Pune, 21st October 2023: Mazda Hall, Dastur School, Camp – On Wednesday, 25th October 2023 at 7 pm, Spotlight at the Loft Forum will be hosting “Play On Words,” a musical celebration paying tribute to the iconic P.G. Wodehouse’s Broadway career. This event, held in association with QTP Entertainment and the Poona Music Society, features the multi-talented performer Hal Cazalet and pianist Simon Beck.
The Concept and Talent Behind “Play On Words”
Conceived and performed by Hal Cazalet, “Play On Words” honors his step Great-Grandfather P.G. Wodehouse’s illustrious career on Broadway. The musical event will feature a repertoire that spans 120 years, encompassing works from luminaries such as Jerome Kern, George and Ira Gershwin, Alan Jay Lerner, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, and many more.
Hal Cazalet is no stranger to the world stage; trained at The Juilliard School in New York, he has a rich history of leading roles in world premieres for composers like Philip Glass and Roxanna Panufnik. His musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Happy Prince” is slated to open at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai, in 2024.
The Man Behind the Music: Simon Beck
The music direction and piano accompaniment for the evening will be provided by Simon Beck. Known for his versatile contributions in various concerts and musicals, Simon recently released his debut album, “The Courage of a Dreamer.”
Creative Direction by Hugh Wooldridge
The event is co-written and directed by Hugh Wooldridge, a man of many talents who has been directing large-scale concerts and events for the past 25 years. His noteworthy productions include “The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber” and “The Golden Wedding Celebration of HM The Queen at the Royal Festival Hall” in London.
