Pune: Locals Rescue 70 School Children from Near Disaster in Pimpri Chinchwad

Charholi Budruk, 4th July 2024: At around 3:45 pm today, the lives of 70 school children were saved thanks to the quick action of local citizens in Pimpri Chinchwad. The incident occurred at Dabhade Sarkar Chowk, Charholi Budruk, when the driver of a school bus from Lokseva English Medium School and Junior College lost control and veered off the road towards the Indrayani River.

The school bus was traveling on Alandi-Markal Road when the driver lost control near Dabhade Sarkar Chowk. The bus collided with the safety wall of a bridge over the Indrayani River, partially hanging off the bridge. There were 70 students on board at the time.

Residents near the accident spot, including Tushar Dabhade, Sushil Nigde, Vishnu Tapkir, Sanket Tapkir, Sagar Dabhade, Suraj Dabhade, Omkar Bhujbal, Sunil Gawade, and others, acted swiftly by breaking the bus windows to safely evacuate the students. The accident caused a traffic jam on the road, prompting former Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Mayor Nitin Kalje to rush to the scene and assist in moving the school bus with the help of a crane.

The incident occurred amidst heavy rains, causing the Indrayani River to swell with water. Thanks to the vigilance and bravery of the locals, a major accident was successfully averted.
