Following a complaint from the deceased’s sister, police arrested both the moneylender and the woman on charges related to abetment of suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Sachin Satish Giri, a resident of Siddhivinayak Vihar, Handewadi, Hadapsar. Those arrested are Ravindra Maruti Memaane (45), a resident of Satyanarayan Colony, Fursungi, and Komal Giri (30), Sachin’s wife. The complaint was filed at Kalepadal Police Station by Sachin’s sister, Savita Santosh Bharti (39), a resident of Uruli Devachi, Hadapsar-Saswad Road.
According to police, Sachin and Komal had been married for a few years. During this time, Sachin borrowed money at interest from Ravindra Memaane.
