Pune: Live-In Relationship Dispute Turns Deadly As Mumbai Man Murdered And Body Thrown In Mulsi, 4 Persons Arrested

Pune, 22nd December 2023: In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Extortion Squad 2 of the Crime Branch, Pune City, has successfully solved a murder case where four individuals allegedly killed a man in Mumbai and dumped his body in the Mulshi area. Police have also recovered the vehicle used in the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Joe Manuel Pereira. The detained individuals are identified as follows:

1. Ashok Mahadev Thorat (35 years, resident of Warje Pune, Native of Beed district)
2. Ganesh Sahebrao Rahate (35 years, resident of Pune, Native of Amravati district)
3. Dheeraj alias Bunty Laxman Salunke (40 years, resident of Bhawani Peth Pune). He is a criminal on police record with cases of kidnapping, murder, extortion, assault etc.
4. Yogesh Dattu Mane (42 years, resident of Warje Malwadi, Pune)

On December 21, Police Sub-Inspector Mohandas Jadhav, part of the Anti-Extortion Squad 2, received critical information from a confidential informant regarding the murder of Pereira. Acting promptly, Police Inspector Pratap Mankar, in-charge of the unit, recognized the gravity of the situation and informed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Amol Zende, who directed immediate action.

Two teams were formed to locate the accused, and based on the number of car used in the crime, the Anti-Extortion Squad 2 zeroed in on the suspects. The accused were detained along with the vehicle and brought to the office of Anti-Extortion Squad 2 for further questioning.

As per the statements provided by the accused, Pereira was in a live-in relationship with the sister-in-law of Mane and there was some dispute. The accused persons travelled from Pune to Kalina to kill Pereira on December 20 (Wednesday). They beat him with a blunt weapon, strangling him, and subsequently dumping the body in the Mulshi area to destroy evidence.

Upon contacting the Paud Police Station under Pune Rural, it was confirmed that an unidentified person’s body was found near Gonwadi Village on Pune-Kolad Road on December 21 (Thursday). A murder case was registered in this regard.

The four accused, along with the vehicle, have been handed over to the Paud police station for further legal proceedings.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar and Police Inspector Mankar.

The team included Police Sub-Inspector Mohandas Jadhav, Srikant Chavan, and police personnel Surendra Jagdale, Ishwar Andhale, Sachin Ahiwale, Sangram Shingare, Vijay Gurav, Pradip Shitole, Asha Kolekar, Shankar Sampete, Saidoba Bhojrao, Chetan Apte, Pawan Bhosale, Amol Pilane, Chetan Shirolkar, Kishore Burge and Rupali Karnawar.
