Pune, 21st July 2023: With heavy rainfall posing risks to construction sites, the labor department has issued a directive mandating construction professionals and contractors to equip workers with proper safety tools and equipment to prevent accidents. Additionally, an appeal has been made for the registration of unregistered construction workers with the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

To ensure the safety of construction workers, all construction professionals, contractors, and employers must register themselves as employers online at https://lms.mahaonline.gov.in. By providing necessary safety equipment, potential accidents caused by soil erosion or compromised protective walls can be minimized. Adequate arrangements should also be made to safeguard the living conditions of the construction workers during this period. Furthermore, the health of construction workers should be prioritized by providing essential facilities at their residence.

Construction professionals, contractors, and employers are encouraged to cooperate in registering undocumented construction workers employed at all construction sites with the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. By doing so, these workers can avail the benefits of various schemes, including safety kits, essential kits, medical check-ups, and mid-day meals, offered by the board.

Shailendra Pol, Additional Labor Commissioner of Pune Division, has emphasized that negligence towards the health and safety of construction workers, or any fatal accidents that may occur, will lead to accountability for the concerned construction professionals, contractors, and employers. Ensuring the well-being of construction workers must be treated as a collective responsibility to maintain a safe and secure work environment on construction sites.
