Pimpri Chinchwad, 14th August 2024: The family-owned company of former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Puja Khedkar narrowly avoided an auction by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) after settling overdue property and water taxes. The company, Thermoverita Engineering Private Limited, located in Jyotiba Nagar, Talawade, had not paid its taxes since 2022. As a result, PCMC’s Taxation and Tax Collection Department initiated the process of auctioning the property. However, the Khedkar family paid Rs 2.78 lakh in property tax and Rs 1.78 lakh in water tax, preventing the auction.

Puja Khedkar had listed the property in Talawade as her address while obtaining a disability certificate from PCMC’s Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri. She also provided a ration card that listed the company’s address. The property, belonging to Puja’s mother, Manorama Khedkar, was issued multiple notices for non-payment of taxes. After continued non-compliance, the property was seized by PCMC on 19th July, with a 21-day deadline set for payment.

Had the taxes remained unpaid, the property would have been auctioned. However, on 6th August, the Khedkar family settled the dues, paying Rs 2,87,591 in property tax and Rs 1,78,680 in water tax, thus avoiding the auction.

Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner, Taxation and Tax Collection Department, PCMC, confirmed, “Thermoverita Engineering Private Limited in Talawade has paid the due tax. Therefore, the auction will not be conducted.”
